Whiteman Osterman & Hanna Presents Land Use Training Seminar

Whiteman Osterman & Hanna Attorneys David Everett and Claiborne Walthall presented a seminar on land use training on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Columbia-Greene Community College.  The seminar, entitled “The Future’s So Bright, We’ve Gotta Wear Shades:  Municipal Considerations Related to Solar Energy Installations”,  discussed the 575 percent growth in the amount of solar power installed in New York State and the Governor’s NY-Sun initiative which aims to add more than three gigawatts of installed solar capacity by 2023.  With this enormous growth in the solar industry, it raises concerns for municipalities including zoning, land use and environmental issues related to siting solar projects, developing local laws regulating solar projects, specific issues related to residential and utility-scale solar projects, land owner considerations, as well as funding sources, etc.  Additionally, the presentation discussed the alternatives that local governments have for encouraging responsible solar development that ultimately benefit the local  community.
