Matthew Liponis joined Whiteman Osterman & Hannan LLP in September 2020. Mr. Liponis was previously with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as an Excelsior Fellow, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s signature fellowship and professional development program, where he worked on energy policy, regulatory matters, and government transparency.
Mr. Liponis is admitted to practice in New York State and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Mr. Liponis graduated magna cum laude from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University with his Juris Doctor and an Advanced Certificate in Environmental Law. While at law school, Mr. Liponis served as the President of the Environmental Law Society, Productions Editor of the Pace International Law Review, a student clinician at the Environmental Litigation Clinic where he handled Clean Water Act permitting matters. Additionally, Mr. Liponis served as a legal intern at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, and as a researcher for members of the school’s faculty.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Liponis worked as a research associate for a boutique investment office in Massachusetts after obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College where he graduated with honors and a double major in International Business & Management and Spanish. Mr. Liponis is originally from Berkshire County, Massachusetts and currently lives in downtown Albany.
