Dorothy-Jane C. Goldsack Porpeglia joined Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP in September, 2001. In her practice, she advises both private and public sector clients on a wide range of labor and employment, corporate and education law issues. Her experience includes, for example:
- Drafting policies and handbooks, and counseling clients regarding their implementation (including recently designing and drafting several hundred page Handbook Template for use by a multi-leveled national organization);
- Advising clients regarding employee discipline/terminations, wage and hour issues, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination/anti-harassment issues, employee leaves, grant requirements, and numerous other compliance issues;
- Negotiating and drafting separation and settlement agreements, employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, confidentiality agreements, proprietary information and assignment agreements, and other employment-related agreements;
- Representing clients in matters before administrative agencies, courts, and arbitrators (including federal and state courts, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New York State Division of Human Rights, the Public Employer Relations Board, the New York State Department of Labor, and the Industrial Board of Appeals);
- Designing and conducting presentations throughout the country regarding employment policies and “hot button topic” employment issues;
- Advising public and private corporations regarding corporate compliance obligations; and
- Obtaining Court approval, and endorsement of the New York State Attorney General, for religious organizations seeking to mortgage and/or sell real property.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Porpeglia externed for both the Hon. Roger J. Miner, United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, and the Hon. Alexander P. Waugh, Jr., Superior Court, State of New Jersey, Middlesex County. She interned at the Albany Law School Domestic Violence Clinic.

Ms. Porpeglia is admitted to practice in New York State, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of New York.
Professional & Community Activities
Ms. Porpeglia serves on the Board of Trustees of the Robert C. Parker School (a private-co-educational school in Wynantskill, New York) and is a member of the Junior League of Troy. She presently chairs the Personnel Practices Task Force of the board for a national organization, and is Chancellor of Province II of The Episcopal Church of the United States of America, which encompasses New York, New Jersey, Haiti, the Virgin Islands and the Convocation of American Churches in Europe. From 2004-2007, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees for her alma mater, Hartwick College. She is a former member of Hartwick College Alumni Association Board of Directors, and a former member of the Court of Review for Province II of The Episcopal Church.
Education
Ms. Porpeglia graduated, summa cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University. At graduation, she was elected a member of the Justinian Honor Society. She received the Outstanding Editor Award for her work on the Albany Law Review. Ms. Porpeglia received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Hartwick College. She graduated with College Honors and Departmental Distinction in Psychology. She was inducted into the Hartwick College Honors Society (same criteria as Phi Beta Kappa) and Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology.
